Jesus explained to his disciples, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” ( Luke 6:45).
Solomon revealed in the book of Proverbs, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” ( Proverbs 23:7), Whatever controls our mind (heart) controls our speech, feelings, and behavior.
Satan wants control of your mind. He wants to control your life so he can make you suffer. He wants you to be anxious, depressed, frightened, sad, worried, etc. He wants you to sin so you will have to face the natural, terrible consequences of sin ‘here on earth and the eternal consequences of sin after the judgment. He is a liar, full of deceit. He is working 24 hours a day to put false ideas into your mind just so you will sin and suffer. Remember Adam and Eve.
God wants control of your mind, too. He wants to control your life so you can enjoy an abundant life here on earth and eternal life after the judgment. He wants you to have peace, contentment, love, joy, patience, self-control, etc. He sent Jesus, full of grace and truth, to rescue you from the deception and lies of Satan (John 1: 14). He has given you the Bible, his revelation of truth, to study and fill your mind so you can live a life free from the power of Satan’s lies.
Who controls your mind and the quality of life you live, is up to you. That’s right; it is your choice. Satan can’t control your mind unless you choose to let him, but neither can God (Cf. James 4:1-10). What are you choosing to fill your mind — the lies of Satan or the truths of God?
