Having an “encounter with Jesus” is a buzzword among some religious bodies, which seems to emphasize that there are no boundaries or limitations in where or how one can encounter Jesus. Let’s be clear–every person on earth needs to have an “encounter” with Jesus. However, the “encounter” must take place on HIS terms, not ours! Think about this.
Be baptized into Jesus (Gal. 3:27) and you’ll have an encounter with Jesus. Walk daily in the footsteps of Jesus (1 John 1:7) and you’ll have an encounter with Jesus. Abide in the words of Jesus (John 8:31) and you’ll have an encounter with Jesus. Let the words of Jesus abide in you (John 15:7) and you’ll have an encounter with Jesus. Worship according to Jesus’ truth (John 4:24) and you’ll have an encounter with Jesus. Teach Jesus to someone (Acts 8:35) and you’ll have an encounter with Jesus. Show the love of Jesus to one another (John 15:12) and you’ll have an encounter with Jesus. Basically, if you’ll follow Jesus and do things Jesus’ way (John 1:43; 2:5), you’ll have an encounter with Jesus! His terms are the only terms!
