Follow the Leader IF . . .

When I was a youth running cross-country, I was running a race that I had never run before. It was a winding course up in the hills and we had not scouted it ahead of time as we would often do.

Since I was unfamiliar with the way to go, I hung back in about third or fourth place and followed the leaders along the course. We twisted and turned and then went up a path going uphill. About halfway up the hill, the boys in front of me stopped and I stopped with them. We all looked down and saw the rest of the runners down below going along the actual direction of the race. We had gone the wrong way.

Needless to say, I did not do well in that race. It was my fault because I chose to follow others who did not know where they were going, just because they were leading the race.

We can do the same thing in the spiritual race. There are lots of dynamic speakers who are leading people astray just because they seem to be great leaders. But a true spiritual leader will only benefit us if they are going down the path that God has set before us. Follow them as they follow Jesus!

1 Corinthians 11:1
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

— Sebastian Stroughter
