How Faithful is Faithful?

If you were to ask almost any member of the church if he is faithful, chances are he would say “yes”. If he is not, why would he tell you he is faithful? Probably because he does not have a correct understanding of what it means to be faithful.
Faithfulness requires that one be reliable, steady, dependable and trustworthy.
People are sometimes faithful in some areas of life but not faithful in others. If you have a job that requires you to be on the job Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. till 5 p.m., and you show up for work every other working day, are you faithful? Of course not! If you have a wife, you may be faithful to your wife, but are you faithful on the job? What if you are on the job every day but you always show up late, are you faithful? What if you always attend church but you are always late? Are you faithful?
Sometimes people go to work even though they have a headache. They may not go to church when they have a headache. They may be faithful on the job but not faithful in church. Also, one may be faithful to attend the assemblies of the church but not faithful in his worship while in the assembly. He may fail to sing. When prayers are led, he may not make them his. When offerings are collected he may not give as God has prospered him nor with a cheerful and willing heart.
Did you see the crowd present at the AFC playoff game, sitting there in a bitter cold snowstorm? Dedicated fans, would you agree? Are we as dedicated to the Lord as they are to their sport? Makes you wonder!
