Any Use in Trying to be Righteous?

Do you want to know what God says about the “righteous?” The word appears about 250 times in the Bible, and over 120 of those times are in the books of Psalms and Proverbs. Think about that–half of the time that the Bible uses the word “righteous” is in those two books.

Consider just a few passages from Proverbs that highlight the benefit of being “righteous” in the eyes of the Lord. The righteous “has an everlasting foundation” (10:25), “is delivered from trouble” (11:8), and “has a refuge in his death” (14:32). In fact, “in the house of the righteous there is much treasure” (15:6), for the Lord “blesses the dwelling of the righteous” (3:33).

On the other side, he who chooses to be “wicked,” rather than “righteous,” “shall be filled with evil” (12:21), “banished in his wickedness” (14:32), “overthrown” (12:7), punished (11:21), and receive “trouble” as “the revenue of the wicked” (15:6). Which shall you choose? Remember, “The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous” (15:29)!
