After my heart attack a couple of years ago, I started taking a little afternoon break to sit in the back yard. This forced “slow-down” allowed me to get some free vitamin D from the sun, to decompress from the stresses of life, and to notice some incredible performances from nature around me.
Perhaps I was just imagining, but it seemed like birds were trying to get my attention by singing to me, hummingbirds were flapping their wings with breathtaking speed right in front of me as if they were doing incredible stunts on stage, and I was interacting with God’s creatures. I had a front-row seat, and the performances were fun to watch.
Then it occurred to me that even plants wanted in on the action. We have a bunch of aloe vera plants, and in springtime they grow shoots which blossom. It’s like watching fireworks in slow motion. They are performing, and they put on quite a show.
God created music and is the Executive Director and Production Designer. May we all be so blessed to slow down long enough to enjoy the performance!
“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands” (Isaiah 55:12).
